Best Places To Visit in Devon This Spring

Secret swimming coves, misty moorland haunts and bright blooms. There is something extra special about springtime in Devon. Come with us as we uncover the best places to visit in Devon this spring...

Wild Pear Beach

If you've scrolled through Instagram in the last few months you'll instantly recognise this stunning cove. Often hailed as one of Devon's best kept secrets, this beach looks like it could be from a tropical holiday photo. Because it's a 30 minute walk along the coast path from Combe Martin it tends to stay lovely and quiet, and at this time of year, even on a sunny day, you can easily have it all to yourself for a Robinson Crusoe moment!

Holdstone Down

We love heading up here at sunset for stunning views of the sun dipping into the sea. A lovely high wilderness spot right on the North Devon coast, pack a picnic and a blanket and take advantage of the early sunset times of spring. It's also part of the Exmoor Dark Skies Reserve so a magical place for stargazing.

Cow Castle

From Simonsbath it is an easy stroll along the beautiful River Barle to the incredible Iron Age hillfort of Cow Castle. With wooded valleys full of spring flowers and a river for paddling or braving a dip then this is a gorgeous day out.

Abbotsham Cliffs

Our studio is in Barnstaple, so after work in the spring we often head toward Westward Ho! for some fresh sea air (and maybe some sneaky chips on the beach!). But if you're looking for some solitude then head out of Westward Ho! on the coastpath and you'll soon come to Abbotsham Cliffs. A peaceful spot away from the town where the cliffs dip down to meet a long pebble beach that you can have to yourself for spring BBQ's, swims and surfing.

Marwood Hill Gardens

It wouldn't be spring without visiting a garden! Just up the road from our studio is Marwood Hill Gardens. Over 20 acres of gardens and 3 lakes are nestled into a quiet valley here in North Devon. They are famous for their camellias and magnolias that are bursting with colour in spring and we can never resist their amazing cakes in the tea room!
